Recipe: Sweet & Sour Meatballs

I got this recipe during an online recipe swap from my friend Elyse!

Ingredients:

Meatballs: Ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, milk, salt, onion, Worcestershire sauce

Sauce:  Vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, crushed pineapple, green peppers

Taste:  The sauce on these is really tasty.  I was able to eat them for dinner 3 or 4 nights in a row with no problem.  They go really well with egg noodles, or on mini buns (as sliders).  It’s truly a sweet and sour experience, even if you don’t really like soy sauce or pineapple.

Texture:  I had made these before with pineapple chunks, but I much preferred the crushed pineapple I used this time (the smaller pieces make it easier to eat the sauce- especially because I don’t like eating pineapple on its own).  You have flexibility as to how large to make the meatballs- but I have found that this recipe comes out pretty well.

Homemade Meatballs

Ingredients: Ground beef, seasoned breadcrumbs, milk, pecorino romano cheese, garlic, parsley, garlic powder, pepper, egg

This is a family recipe.  It’s actually not a recipe, but I made my mom figure out the measurements and write it down for me (she doesn’t measure).

Texture: These meatballs aren’t too spongy (bready).  They actually feel like meat!  A little dry, I might cook less or add more milk next time.

Taste: Best meatballs I’ve tasted, they have lots of flavor from the garlic and cheese.  The chunks of garlic are visible (I would cut them smaller though if I could).
